THE NEW 911 GT3 RS SETS THE FASTEST LAP THROUGH THE ‘GREEN HELL’

Porsche GT3 RS 01

On April 16 the Porsche 911 GT3 RS set another benchmark for road-approved sports cars at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife circuit in Germany: Porsche works race driver Kévin Estre set a lap time in 6:56.4 minutes with the 520-hp GT3 RS. The Frenchman’s lap time was 24 seconds faster than the best time achieved with the previous GT3 RS model.

Porsche development driver Lars Kern was sharing driving duties with Estre. Following the 918 Spyder and the 911 GT2 RS, the new GT3 RS is the third production Porsche sports car with a notarised lap time of less than seven minutes on the world’s most demanding race track, known as the ‘Green Hell’. As is customary for record drives, the time was measured around the 20.6-kilometre lap.

Porsche GT3 RS
Frank Steffen Walliser, Vice President Motorsport and GT Cars, commented; “No other Porsche model gets as close to racing as the new GT3 RS. Many innovative ideas from top-level motorsport were transferred; for example, from the 911 GT3 R. This is what our philosophy for GT models is about: Highest technology must be fascinating but tangible. In this regard there is no harder test for our ideas than the Nordschleife.”

Porsche GT3 RS 02
The 911 GT3 RS with motorsport-bred chassis and 383-kW (520-hp), four-litre, high- speed naturally aspirated engine had its world premiere at the Geneva Motor Show in early March this year. The high-performance sports car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, reaching a top speed of 312 km/h.

Prices for the 911 GT3 RS start at 195.137 euro in Germany, including VAT and country-specific equipment.

VOLKSWAGEN PRESENTS THE NEW TOUAREG – THE NEW BRAND’S FLAGSHIP IN CHINA

Der neue Volkswagen Touareg

Volkswagen is making a statement by staging a world premiere of a new model for the first time in China – its largest market. The new Touareg1 marks a milestone in the brand’s largest model and technology campaign, and it shows what engineers and designers at Volkswagen can do. The new flagship takes a top position in the premium class SUV segment with its expressive design, its innovative operating, convenience and safety systems, as well as in the high quality of its materials and craftsmanship.

Equipped with the connectivity of a new era and a pioneering fusion of assistance, comfort, lighting and infotainment systems, the Touareg points the way to the future. At the same time, the exclusive SUV charges up its market segment with pure dynamism. The largest markets for what is now the third generation of the Touareg are China, Europe and Russia. Worldwide sales of the previous two generations amount to nearly one million units. The Touareg – as comfortable as it is dynamic – has, as the most technically advanced Volkswagen of its era, the potential to enthuse technology and design savvy drivers.

Volkswagen is presenting the fully digitalised Innovision Cockpit for the first time in the new Touareg. Here the digital instruments (Digital Cockpit with 12-inch display) and the top Discover Premium infotainment system (with 15-inch display) merge to form a digital operating, information, communication and entertainment unit that hardly needs any conventional buttons or switches.

Der neue Volkswagen Touareg

The Touareg is launching with the largest range of assistance, handling and comfort systems ever to be integrated into a Volkswagen. They include technologies such as the Night Vision assistance system (detects people and animals in darkness via a thermal imaging camera), Roadwork Lane Assist (semi-automated steering and lane keeping, accelerating and braking up to 60 km/h), Front Cross Traffic Assist (reacts to cross traffic in front of the Touareg), active all-wheel steering (makes the Touareg handle like a compact car), new roll stabilisation with electromechanically controlled anti-roll bars, ‘IQ.Light – LED matrix headlights’ (interactive, camera-based dipped and main beam headlight control) and a ‘Windshield Head-up Display’ projected directly onto the windscreen.

Der neue Volkswagen Touareg

Compared to its predecessor, the third generation Touareg is moderately wider and longer. The new dimensions have positive effects on both the vehicle’s proportions and its amount of interior space. The added exterior length leads, for example, to a significant increase in luggage capacity, from 697 to 810 litres (with rear bench seat up). Cargo there is hidden from onlookers by an optional electrically extending and retracting luggage compartment cover. Despite its increased length and width, the car body is 106 kg lighter because of its mixed material construction of aluminium (48 per cent) and high-tech steels (52 per cent).

In Europe, Volkswagen will initially offer two V6 diesel engines for the new 2018 Touareg with outputs of 170 kW / 231 PS and 210 kW / 286 PS. In a number of markets, this will also be followed by a V6 petrol engine (250 kW / 340 PS) and a V8 turbodiesel (310 kW / 421 PS). A new plug-in hybrid drive (270 kW / 367 PS of system power) is being prepared for China; its exact launch date in Europe is still open.

Maserati GranTurismo & GranCabrio MY2018

Maserati GranCabrio

The GranTurismo is the latest Maserati designed by Pininfarina and since its launch in 2007 it has evolved into one of the most iconic GT cars ever built. The GranCabrio made its debut in the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show as a 2010 model. Both are considered to be the ultimate expression of Maserati’s passion, technology and craftsmanship and each one is unique in the supercar segment thanks to their timeless design and comfortable 4-seat interior.

Maserati has produced more than 37,000 GranTurismo and GranCabrio models in the historic factory of Viale Ciro Menotti in Modena and relaunches the two iconic models for 2018 with an elegant and aerodynamically efficient restyling, refined interiors and a state-of-the art infotainment system.

The streamlined range of each model comprises two distinct versions, the Sport and the MC. Both are equipped with the naturally aspirated 4.7-litre V8 engine, which was hand-crafted by Ferrari in Maranello and produces 460hp at 7,000rpm and 520Nm peak torque at 4,750rpm. A six-speed ZF Automatic Gearbox is attached directly to the V8 powerhouse.

Maserati GranTurismo e GranCabrio MY2018

The Maserati Design Centre team in Turin approached the MY18 restyling by treating the timeless Pininfarina design with utmost respect. The car’s new “sharknose” hexagonal grille is inspired by the Alfieri Concept and adds a three-dimensional effect to the frontal view.

Together with the new, lower air ducts, the grille helps improve the airflow distribution and reduces aerodynamic drag from 0.33 to 0.32 for the GranTurismo and from 0.35 to 0.33 for the GranCabrio. The rear bumper has also been redesigned with an emphasis on the natural elegance of the iconic GT coupé and cabriolet, featuring a neater design with twofold layout for the Sport and MC versions.

The interior of the GranTurismo and GranCabrio offers unparalleled comfort for four adults thanks to the individual Poltrona Frau® leather seats with integrated headrests. For 2018, the sumptuous interior features a new, high resolution 8.4” capacitive touch screen and refined ergonomics. The state-of-the art infotainment system is compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirroring functions. The lower console is redesigned to accommodate a user-friendly, double rotary dial made of forged aluminium and the repositioned button cluster for the car’s driving modes. The new Maserati double dial clock at the centre of the dashboard and the Harman Kardon Premium Sound system are standard on both Sport and MC versions.

When charged overnight or during the work day from a wallbox (AC, 7.2 kW), the battery is ready to go again with 100 per cent capacity in less than six hours.

The maximum torque of the electric motor has been boosted from 270 Nm to 290 Nm*. In the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), the combined fuel consumption of the e-Golf* is 12.7 kWh/100 km* with zero local emissions. Volkswagen has also improved the performance of the e-Golf* in the 2017 model year. The four-door zero-emission car now handles the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 9.6 seconds*, and its top speed increases to 150 km/h*.

Umbau startet: Volkswagen fertigt neuen e-Golf ab April 2017 in der Gläsernen Manufaktur in Dresden

Volkswagen introduced a significant update of the Golf just a week ago. All relevant new features were also implemented in the latest version of the e-Golf* being shown in a world premiere in California. They include modified front and rear designs with newly conceptualised full-LED headlights and full-LED tail lights.

Another new feature of the e-Golf* is the Active Info Display (digital instruments). As mentioned, this Volkswagen is also the world’s first electric car to launch with an infotainment system that can be operated by gesture control. The new “Discover Pro” is included as standard. Furthermore, the e-Golf* is once again being delivered with the online services “e-Remote” (includes starting/stopping battery charging and auxiliary air conditioning) and “Guide & Inform” as well as the App Connect smartphone interface (with MirrorLink™/Android, CarPlay™/Apple and Android Auto™/Google).

Volkswagen is also extending the range of assistance systems for the e-Golf* in the 2017 model year. New available systems are Traffic Jam Assist (semi-autonomous driving up to 60 km/h), pedestrian monitoring for Front Assist with City Emergency Braking and Emergency Assist (automatic stopping function in case of driver loses consciousness).
