2017 Honda NSX : A ‘New Sports eXperience’


Specifically created to bring a ‘New Sports eXperience’ to the supercar segment. By making use of advanced new technologies, such as a lightweight yet rigid all-aluminium monocoque body and chassis, mated to a mid-mounted transverse V6 engine, the original NSX challenged conventional supercar wisdom. Its high-revving engine featured a number of innovative production technologies, including forged pistons, titanium connecting rods and VTEC valve train.

Respecting the core characteristics and differentiators of the original NSX, the new Honda NSX pursues an altogether new and revolutionary idea for Honda supercar performance, melding timeless sports car values with next-generation technologies to create a New Sports eXperience. Just as Honda’s precision crafted performance DNA guided the creation of the original NSX, every aspect of this new design is accordingly a next-generation expression of those same values.


Foremost among its many innovations is Sport Hybrid Super Handling All-Wheel-Drive (Sport Hybrid SH-AWD), a first-of-its-kind technology in the supercar arena. By combining this new interpretation of Honda Super Handling performance with innovative approaches to vehicle design – including advanced body construction, component packaging and aerodynamic optimisation – the NSX faithfully translates the acceleration, steering and braking inputs of the driver with incredible fidelity and with instant response. It amplifies the capabilities of every driver, and greatly elevates the dynamic experience in every driving situation.

Through Sport Hybrid SH-AWD, the NSX is the world’s first supercar to utilise hybrid electric motors to enhance and elevate every element of its dynamic performance: acceleration, braking and cornering. With electrically powered torque vectoring provided by the front-mounted Twin Motor Unit, the NSX takes Honda Super Handling All-Wheel Drive technology to a new level – using the dynamic, instantaneous and continuous distribution of electric motor torque to enhance the precision of handling and cornering performance in all driving situations.


The revolutionary NSX Sport Hybrid SH-AWD power unit and its advanced dynamic capabilities are supported by new concepts in supercar design and body construction. The NSX’s multi-material spaceframe is a clean-sheet design, utilising a multitude of materials and joining technologies, each chosen for its unique capabilities to deliver unrivalled body rigidity in combination with low mass, outstanding visibility and class-leading occupant and crash protection. The NSX’s multi-material body integrates several world-first technologies, including three-dimensionally-bent ultra-high-strength steel A-pillars and ablation-cast aluminium frame nodes.

The new NSX is Honda’s flagship model and the ultimate expression – in series production form – of Honda’s vision for sporty and advanced vehicles. With first deliveries to European customers expected in autumn 2016, the NSX represents a critical step in re-establishing the Honda’s passion for performance enabled by advanced technologies.

New Civic Tourer Begins Mass Production at Honda’s UK Plant

At Honda’s UK plant in Swindon  were already celebrating the first Civic Tourers rolling off the production line.  The ceremony was hosted by senior management to congratulate the Associates at the plant; those in its European R&D team and Honda’s suppliers, for all their hard work in the creation of this bespoke European model.

The Civic Tourer will arrive in dealerships across Europe in early 2014. It comes with the choice of two engines; the 1.8 i-VTEC petrol and the new 1.6 i-DTEC diesel. The diesel engine is the first in Europe from Honda’s next-generation Earth Dreams Technology series and delivers incredible fuel economy without compromising power and performance. The light weight engine provides a competitive 120 PS of power and 300 Nm of torque with an acceleration times of 0–100kmph in 10.1secs, yet still delivers 3.8L/100km (74.33mpg) on the combined cycle, giving a range of 1.315km (817 miles) on one tank of fuel and CO₂ emissions of just 99g/km.

Despite being the lowest and most compact estate in the segment, the new Tourer offers a class-leading 624 litres of boot space (up to the tonneau cover with rear seats up). Utilising Honda’s  Magic Seat system, the rear seats can be pulled down to create a completely flat load area with 1668 litres of capacity up to the roof linin.

New Honda Civic Torer is available with two engines – 1.8 i-VTEC petrol and 1.6 i-DTEC diesel. The Earth Dreams Technology  1.6 i-DTEC diesel engine offers low running costs with 74.3mpg and from 99 g/km of CO2 emissions. Civic Tourer is equipped with a world first technology – Rear Adaptive Damper System and new suite of innovative safety technologies. Prices start in England at £20,265 OTR for the entry level 1.8 i-VTEC S model.

Honda will soon launch a trio of new turbocharged VTEC petrol engines, in the form of 1.0 three-cylinder and 1.5 litre four-cylinder engines, along with the new Honda Civic Type R‘s 2.0 litre four-cylinder turbo mill.

Honda has previously confirmed the the new Civic Type R’s engine will offer “in excess” of 206kW, but full technical details for the smaller engines are still to be confirmed.

All three engines will benefit from direct injection however, and will join Honda’s 1.6 litre diesel engine at the small end of its new Earth Dreams engine range.

Honda will Recall Approximately 344000 Odyssey Minivans

Honda will voluntarily recall approximately 344000 Odyssey Minivans. Due to a combination of VSA system components and software that is unique to 2007- 2008 model year Odyssey vehicles, it is possible for the VSA system to apply the vehicle’s brakes unexpectedly under certain conditions. Each time a vehicle starts moving after an engine restart, the VSA system calibrates the yaw rate sensor.

If the vehicle is driven in a specific manner, the VSA system will not properly complete that calibration and hydraulic pressure in the braking system can build. If this occurs without interruption, the pressure may be released into the brake circuit, causing heavy and unexpected braking without the driver pressing on the brake pedal and without
illumination of the brake lamps, increasing the risk of a crash. Honda is not aware of any related crashes or injuries related to this issue.

During the interim period, concerned owners of 2007-2008 Odyssey vehicles may view instructions detailing methods to ensure proper VSA system calibration by visiting  www.recalls.honda.com. Additionally, in early December, owners of these  vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicle is included in the recall by visiting that website.
